Microsoft akusisi GitHub

Menurut laporan terbaru dari Bloomberg, Microsoft telah setuju untuk mengakuisisi GitHub. Kesepakatan ini akan diumumkan paling cepat hari Senin waktu setempat. Belum diketahui dengan pasti berapa biaya yang akan dikeluarkan oleh Microsoft untuk akuisisi ini.

Microsoft Corp. has agreed to acquire GitHub Inc., the code repository company popular with many software developers, and could announce the deal as soon as Monday, according to people familiar with the matter.

GitHub preferred selling the company to going public and chose Microsoft partially because it was impressed by Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. Terms of the agreement weren’t known on Sunday. GitHub was last valued at $2 billion in 2015.

GitHub adalah salah satu platform kolaborasi bagi para software engineer. Beberapa perusahaan teknologi seperti Facebook, Apple, dan Google juga menggunakan GitHub untuk menyimpan kode program yang dikembangkan.

Semenjak dikepalai oleh Satya Nadella mulai tahun 2014, Microsoft mulai berbenah dan lebih terbuka kepada para pengembang. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan dukungannya terhadap program Open Source Initiative. Bahkan Microsoft tak ragu untuk menyimpan source code Windows File Manager di GitHub. Microsoft sendiri kini menjadi perusahaan nomor satu yang paling banyak berkontribusi di GitHub.
