Austin Mann, seperti yang biasa dilakukannya setiap tahun kembali mereview kamera iPhone terbaru. Setelah pernah mereview kamera iPhone di Iceland dua kali, Patagonia, dan Switzerland, kali ini iPhone 7 Plus dibawa oleh Austin ke Rwanda, Africa. Dengan lensa ganda wide (28mm) dan telephoto (56mm), foto yang dihasilkan oleh iPhone 7 Plus dalam review Austin sangat menakjubkan. Bahkan dengan 2x zoom, gambar yang dihasilkan masih sangat tajam dan berfungsi di hampir semua mode pemotretan yang ada di iPhone (photo, video, time-lapse, slo-mo, dan panorama).

The iPhone 7 features a completely redesigned camera system with a faster f/1.8 lens (previously f/2.2). The “f/1.8” designation is referring to the aperture of the lens, essentially the size of the “eye” of the camera. Working with a lower f-stop means the sensor is getting more light, which leads to better auto focus, a better ability to freeze motion, and shallower depth-of-field.

I also noticed an improvement in the the dynamic range of the sensor. Below are two images, one regular non-HDR and the other HDR. In the non-HDR image, you can see the sensor has properly exposed both the sunlit trees at the top and Ruth below in the ravine in one single shot. Few camera sensors have this kind of range.

All I can really say here is you just have to hold it and experience it in person. It’s noticeably more brilliant and just a joy to shoot with and edit on. Colors in nature and skin tones are just gorgeous.
Selain memuji keandalan kamera iPhone 7, Austin juga sangat menyukai perubahan akses membuka kamera di iOS 10 lewat swipe ke arah kiri dari home screen. Persis seperti yang saya tulis di review iOS 10 beberapa waktu yang lalu. Dari review Austin:
This is a tiny thing, but I’ve found I like swiping left for camera in iOS 10 way better than up. It used to be if I was rolling my suitcase with my right hand and saw a shot, it would be really difficult to swipe up with my left hand on the Plus. Now it’s easy and fast swiping left on the lock screen with either hand. This slight tweak has opened up opportunities for several shots this week.
Meski belum mencobanya, saya yakin kamera di iPhone 7 Plus dengan lensa ganda memang sangat mumpuni untuk sebuah smartphone. Beberapa review yang saya baca belakangan pun sepakat satu suara, iPhone 7 terutama iPhone 7 Plus memiliki kamera yang sangat baik.
